About this work

Description

With the emergence of integrated crews and new tanker designs, the Tavistock Institute Human Resources Centre was invited to undertake a collaborative research study to gain further understanding of the needs of seafarers at work in order that the Esso Marine Department could relate its personnel policies more accurately to the realities of the situations faced while working at sea. Members of the collaborative steering committee took trips on board the ships to observe the work, interview men and hold small group discussions.
