Biographical note

The compiler of this collection of medical receipts is perhaps Johanna St. John, daughter of Oliver St. John [1598-1673], Lord Chief Justice. She married a kinsman Sir Walter St. John, third Baronet, M.P. for Wiltshire [1621-1708], and was grandmother to Henry St. John, first Viscount Bolingbroke [1678-1751].
