G. Correspondence of David F Mayor

Historical Background Following the launch of the British Holistic Medical Association in September 1983, which restricted membership to doctors, a number of health care practitioners from other disciplines, including nursing, social work and physiotherapy as well as other forms of alternative practice such as osteopathy, acupuncture and homeopathy, interested in and seeking to work with a more holistic approach, proposed to set up an association representing these groups, to work in partnership with the BHMA. A Working Party of health care practitioners organised a founding conference in November 1984, at which the British Holistic Health Association was established.
