The archive includes organisational records of Healing Arts, Isle of Wight, including proposals and plans relating to the design and construction of St Mary's Hospital, as well as correspondence and papers from related arts organisations, and other correspondence and papers concerning the integration of arts in healthcare.

The archive also includes records about Arts and Health Programmes run by Healing Arts, including photographs, reports, and recordings of performances and poetry produced by workshop participants. The collection includes photographs of the interior / exterior of St Mary's Hospital, art works on display in the hospital, and photographs of arts programmes and workshops. It also includes press cuttings, collected publications, articles and , and examples of visual arts and display at St Mary's Hospital.

Healing Arts is the arts in health department of the Isle of Wight NHS Trust. Healing Arts seeks to provide a comprehensive range of programmes linking the arts with healthcare to bring about recovery from illness, improvements in health, and promoting the wellbeing of patients, staff and the Island community.

A number of Arts and Health organisations deposited their collections at Manchester Metropolitan University to form what was known as the Arts for Health archive. In 2015, these papers were donated to Wellcome Library and subsequently divided into the following collections, with a unifying 'ART' prefix in the reference number.
