About this work

Description

The first incarnation of Rosen's autobiography was entitled 'Dr Gerald Ogmore' and written c.1970-1971. The title was later changed to 'Along the Way' and developed, redeveloped and re-written several times up until his last years 1995-1996 to become a definitive autobiography which by then incorporated aspects of his other autobiographical writings from the 1980s and 1990s, 'One Man's Covenants', 'Coincidence and Creativity' and 'Stories of Sculpture'.

Due to the way some of the papers have been organised, filed, titled or stored it is not always possible to precisely identify each incarnation of the novel. For example, 'Dr Gerald Ogmore' very quickly became re-titled 'Along the Way' but by the 1990s the content is vastly different and expanded from the earliest scripts, and at some point around 1990(?) the contents of the 'Covenants' book merged or became chapters for the final testament 'Along the Way', 1996. Therefore, although the material is arranged in five separate series, some of the arrangement is based on assumption or educated guesswork and material may over-lap.
