Biographical note

The majority of the correspondence in this subseries is between the Council for the Investigation of Fertility Control and the manufacturers of various contraceptive products. The CIFC was housed at Margaret Pyke House and consisted primarily of members of the Medical Advisory Panel. It sought to provide reliable information for the guidance of prescribers and manufacturers on the efficacy, acceptability and safety of oral contraceptives by means of a continuously updated list of reviewed products published by the FPA and available to doctors working in its clinics and to all others interested in contraception. It was incorporated in 1967 at the behest of the NEC of the FPA. Among the objects stated in the Memorandum of Association is "to advance and promote education by means of research into problems of fertility control".
