About this work

Description

This section is concerned with the Society's involvement in issues and legislation relating to the use, and regulation of the use, of animals in scientific research.

The Society has always taken an interest and involved itself in the formulation of British and European legislation on the use of animals in scientific research. The material in this section deals with all stages of such legislation, from the formulation and passage of bills, to the implementation of acts, to the campaigning for increased understanding of physiologists' needs.

For an outline history of the Society's involvement with legislation on animal experimentation after 1978, see SA/PHY/G.1/28 and SA/PHY/G.1/47.

As material in this section has been arranged by provenance, material relating to the same event/ legislation may be found in several different series or sub-series.
