Description This project was triggered by an increase in interest in the idea of industrial democracy. The Tavistock Institute was approached by the Ministry of Transport to collaborate with British Railways to assess the opinions and attitudes of British Rail employees to worker participation.

File 1: Includes correspondence and notes on the proposal for the study; copy of HRC 242 'Aims of the Proposed Research' (1969); draft press statement announcing the project; administrative correspondence; notes on visits to York and Glasgow; notes on proposed workshops; pilot questionnaire; press cuttings on the study.

File 2: Includes notes, agendas and minutes of the Steering Group and Working Party, and copy of HRC 942 'Worker's Experience of Participation: the case of British Rail' (1974).
