About this work

Description

This was a project conducted within the Faculty of Technology with two separate groups from the Tavistock Institute. In Spring 1978, Gordon Lawrence undertook a study of experiences of working on or with course teams and what this reflected about group workings within the Open University. Later in the year, Elliot Stern was approached by the Systems Group to study the problems and strains experienced in the relations between the group and the rest of the Faculty, with particular focus on understanding organisational intervention through participation. Research was largely conducted through individual interviews and the aim was to advise on an organisational structure in which all jobs and roles could be facilitated and supported within the wider and diverse environment of the University.
