Biographical note
In the Wellcome Trust's first 20 years, the charity disbursed a total of £1.17 million of dividends. Following the sale of the Trust's shares in the Wellcome Foundation pharmaceutical company across 1986 to 1995, the Trust began to diversify its assets and its income grew steadily. The Trust's charitable disbursments grew accordingly from £20 million in 1985 to £200 million in 1994. Over the 2017/18 financial year, the Trust's charitable disbursements were £723m.
